In 2024, Evan was working two jobs while also a freshman at the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Business Administration. He made the Dean’s List during his first semester. Towards the end of his second semester, he began noticing something strange happening with the right side of his body. While teaching himself piano, he realized his right hand wasn’t keeping up with his left. Finding this odd, he told his mother, who worked tirelessly to get him an appointment with a Neurologist and an MRI. This was the beginning… On March 14, 2024, he was diagnosed. Just six days later, on March 20th, he was scheduled for surgery. Two days before his surgery, he was baptized and gave his life to the Lord. It was an incredibly meaningful moment, made even more special by the presence of close friends and church members who came to support him and share in their love for Christ. During his battle, Evan has embraced his community and, along with his family, has done everything he can to raise awareness to help others and make sure no one has to go through this battle alone. Evan’s favorite quote is ”God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.”

The winners of the auction worked with Graeter's to help develop a flavor to honor Elena Desserich, the inspiration for The Cure Starts Now. Now a Limited Edition seasonal flavor, Elena's Blueberry Pie honors the memories of all young lives affected by pediatric cancer and supports The Cure Starts Now's mission to find the Homerun Cure for all cancers.
